Nick Fan has just released details of the new Nodal Ninja Mecha remote, and it looks fantastic. At an introductory price of $34.95, this remote allows full control of your Nodal Ninja Mecha and has been rigorously tested in outdoor conditions. The remote uses Infrared (IR) technology and has multiple sensors allowing you to control the Mecha from any angle, and in bright sunlit conditions.
Stock of these is very limited at the moment, but we have secured 5 of these on our next order. To pre-order, please see the product in our store.
Nick offered the following details on his Facebook page:
During the prototyping stage of the remote, tests were done indoors. The single receiver design worked perfectly because there were plenty of reflection of IR. Only at the final stage, we tested the receiver and commander outdoors and were only to find it failed miserably. Oh my!!!
I didn’t use camera IR remote enough! Line of sight is neccessary for it to work.
We set off to have a remote that is free from interference in the event that wifi may fail to communicate due to crowded signals. I chose IR and invested heavily in its development and prototyping! The solution is to use more receivers to avoid signal being blocked completely during MECHA in motion. 5 high sensitivity receivers are used to pick up signals at any direction. It works pretty well when the receiver is hanging in the air. One can create a loop on tripod center column and let it rotate around without entanglement.
The drawback is high cost of this receiver. Well, we will absorb it and offer the remote at a great price.
